First Health, a wholly owned subsidiary of Coventry Health Care, provides national PPO network access and other cost containment programs to help clients manage employee benefit plans. The company’s main office is in San Diego, California.
The development of the PPO network began in 1984 by CCN Managed Care, Inc. Initially, the network was available in California, but through aggressive negotiations and acquisitions, the network expanded rapidly to other parts of the country. First Health Group Corp. acquired CCN Managed Care in 2001.
As a result of the 2005 acquisition of First Health Group Corp. by Coventry Health Care, they developed a comprehensive strategy to integrate all of our rental PPO networks to ensure our clients are getting the best possible savings and access we can offer. All integration efforts were completed in January 2008. By utilizing the best contracts and rates from each network, we were able to improve the core value of the First Health Network.
Today the network serves as a premier national network with superior access and value in urban, suburban and rural markets across the country. Their commitment to develop and manage our network ensures that they provide high quality care at the best market price for consumers.
